What we can tell you about our products, and how to handle them safely.
Safety and compliance at Elite Terpenez
Elite Terpenez terpene profiles are concentrated flavour and aroma ingredients, sold to adults who make their own products. They are strong, so a little goes a long way and they need sensible handling. This page explains how to store and use them safely, what the labels and safety data sheets are for, and what we can and cannot tell you. Elite Terpenez is the trading name of ELITETERPENES LTD, company number 16599313, registered in England and Wales.
What our terpenes are, and what they are not
- They are concentrated terpene blends for flavour and aroma, intended to be diluted into a base by someone who knows how to formulate.
- They are not medicines, food supplements or cosmetics, and we make no medical or health claims about any profile.
- They are not for direct inhalation, and they are not sold for use in e-cigarettes or vaping devices. Never use a terpene undiluted.
- You are responsible for making sure anything you make with them is safe, correctly labelled and legal where you make or sell it. We cannot give regulatory advice for your finished product.
Where our terpenes come from
Each product page lists what the profile is made from. Our ranges are made from either botanical-derived terpenes (BDTs) or cannabis-derived terpenes (CDTs), and some profiles combine the two. The ingredients section on the product page is the place to check.
Our Diamond Line is made from cultivated cannabis-derived terpenes, produced by a hydrocarbon-based extraction followed by refinement, and is supplied without THC or other cannabinoids. Where a certificate of analysis (COA) is shown on a product page, it shows the test results for that product. Not every product page carries a COA. If you need one for a particular profile, ask us whether one is available.
In Great Britain, terpenes used to flavour food and drink are controlled under the retained Flavourings Regulation (EC) 1334/2008 and the list of authorised flavouring substances. If you plan to use our terpenes in something you eat, drink or sell, check that each substance and your finished product meet the rules that apply to you.
Who can buy
Our shop is for customers aged 18 or over. The site asks you to confirm your age when you arrive, and you confirm it again when you place an order. See our terms and conditions.
Safe handling
- Terpenes are highly concentrated. Wear gloves and eye protection, and work in a well-ventilated area.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and do not breathe in vapour from the open bottle.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling them, and wash your hands afterwards.
- Keep them away from heat, sparks and open flames. Many terpene liquids are flammable.
- Use clean tools and clean, suitable containers, and label anything you decant.
- Keep away from children and pets at all times.
Dilution guidance
Terpenes are normally used at a small fraction of the finished product. The right amount depends on the profile, the base you use and what you are making, and too much can taste harsh, smell overpowering or irritate. Start low, measure by weight, mix thoroughly and test a small batch before you scale up.
Our terpene mixing calculator and guide helps you work out amounts for a batch. It is a starting point, not a safety assessment of your own formula.
Storage
- Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Storing it in a fridge is fine if you prefer.
- Terpenes are volatile, so close the bottle straight after use.
- Store them out of reach of children and pets, and away from food and drink.
- Do not store them in containers that could be mistaken for food or drink.
Labels, hazard information and safety data sheets
Chemical products placed on the market in Great Britain are classified and labelled under GB CLP, the British version of the classification and labelling rules. Depending on the profile, hazard information can include flammability, skin or eye irritation, skin sensitisation or harm to aquatic life. The classification can differ between profiles, so always read the label on your bottle before you use it.
A safety data sheet (SDS) gives the full detail for a profile: hazards, handling, first aid, firefighting, spill response, storage, disposal and transport. You can ask us for the SDS for any profile you have bought or plan to buy. Email info@eliteterpenez.co.uk or use our contact page with the product name, and we will send what we hold. Our labels do not carry batch codes.
Allergens and sensitivities
Some of the compounds found in terpenes, including limonene and linalool, are recognised fragrance allergens and can cause skin reactions in people who are sensitive to them. If you or the people who will use your product have allergies or sensitive skin, check the ingredients on the product page and the SDS first, and patch test where appropriate. If you use terpenes in a product that has its own labelling rules, such as a cosmetic, make sure you declare allergens as the rules require.
Spills and first aid basics
These are general basics only. The SDS for your profile is the source to follow, and you should keep it to hand.
- Spills: remove sources of ignition, ventilate the room, soak up the liquid with an absorbent material such as sand or absorbent pads, and put it in a sealed container for disposal. Keep it out of drains and watercourses. Wipe the surface clean afterwards.
- On skin: take off contaminated clothing and wash the skin with plenty of soap and water. Get medical advice if irritation develops.
- In eyes: rinse gently with clean water for several minutes, take out contact lenses if you can do so easily, and get medical advice.
- Breathed in: move to fresh air and rest. Get medical advice if you feel unwell.
- Swallowed: rinse the mouth, do not make the person sick, and get medical advice straight away. Have the bottle or label with you.
In the UK, call NHS 111 for advice, or 999 in an emergency.
Transport and delivery
Terpene liquids can be flammable, and carriers have their own rules for sending them. We pack orders for delivery by our carriers and ask you to keep them upright and away from heat once they arrive. The SDS for each profile includes a transport section. If you need transport classification for your own shipping or storage, ask us for the SDS. Delivery details are in our shipping policy.
Quality checks
We aim to describe each product accurately, and we keep product names, sizes and ingredients on the product page. Certificates of analysis are linked on some product pages, and safety data sheets are available on request. If anything you receive looks wrong, such as a damaged bottle, a leak or a product that does not match your order, contact us with your order number and photos. Your legal rights are in our refund and returns policy.
Responsible use
Use terpenes only as directed, in the amounts that suit your product, and only for the purposes they are sold for. Do not use them to make anything you are not allowed to make or sell. Do not share open or decanted bottles with people who do not know what they contain. If you are unsure whether a use is safe, do not go ahead until you have checked the SDS and, where needed, taken professional advice.
